Pre-DWEX Meetup at Love & War In Texas

Attention all DWEXhibitors: Barring a last-minute booking of the room, we’ll be able to come in Friday evening (6 or 7-ish) to set up. After that, let’s do a pre-DWEX get-together at a nearby bar-n-grill called Love & War In Texas. I’ve heard some good stuff about this place, so this would be a good time to check it out. Love & War In Texas is located on Plano Parkway, east of US 75 Central Expressway – coming from the Southfork, you get on 75 South, exit Plano Parkway, turn left, and it’ll be on your left once you cross the railroad tracks. We can just hang out at the bar area, or you can go to the patio to hear some live music ($10 cover to enter the patio). We can start gathering there around 7 and stay who knows how long. Hope to see you there!

Preliminary DWEX 2010 Map

We’ve just put together the floorplan for DWEX 2010. Click on the picture to view it at full size.  As you can see, we grouped some of the more family-friendly comics together, and we also gave careful consideration to some mutual acquaintances as well.

And this won’t be set in stone until next Wednesday, August 18th… so if you have any questions or concerns about where we put you, by all means let us know. And if you wanted to make a last-minute table purchase, we DO have the ability to squeeze in a few more tables, so don’t be discouraged!

Now Accepting Submissions For Our Charity Art Auction

One of the new additions to DWEX this year is an art auction benefitting two local charities. Both are excellent institutions, that do a whole lot for children suffering from various injuries or illnesses, and all proceeds from the art auction will be split between the two.

We’re encouraging all webcomic artists to donate an original piece of artwork for us to auction off to DWEX attendees. The artwork should be a minimum of 8″ x 10″, be PG-rated at most, and it can be black & white or color. If you would like to contribute to our art auction, please download our submission form PDF file and send your artwork to the mailing address on the form. We’re flexible with deadlines, but we would like to receive these submissions in Dallas, Texas by August 12th. (If you’re planning on being at DWEX, no problem, you can just turn it in when you show up in the morning.)

The two charities that will split the proceeds from the Charity Art Auction are:

The Texas Scottish Rite Hospital For Children – This is a nonprofit medical center, located just outside of downtown Dallas, that is funded solely by donations. They specialize in pediatric orthopedics, dyslexia, neurological disorders, orthotics and prosthetics.

Bryan’s House – A special-care facility in Dallas for children affected by HIV or AIDS, children with other special health needs, and their families. They offer a full range of medical, educational, and psychosocial services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Thanks for your consideration!

Gearing Up For DWEX 2010!

We’re bringing back the Dallas Webcomics Expo in 2010, and we’re planning to make it bigger and better than ever! It’ll be at the same place as last year – the Southfork Hotel in Plano – and this time the entire Trinity Ballroom will be devoted to comic artists and merchants. The panels will be moved to another room nearby. We’ll also put some new stuff into this year’s DWEX, such as contests and group projects. Stay tuned!
